Seit über 30 Jahren werden die Zusammenhänge zwischen ADHS und Ernährung kontrovers diskutiert. Anhand einer Literaturanalyse wird in dieser Arbeit erörtert, welche Zusammenhänge zwischen ADHS und der Ernährung bestehen, ob diätetische Interventionen die Symptome verbessern können, ob diese eine mögliche Alternative zur medikamentösen Behandlung darstellen sowie welche Empfehlungen sich aus den Ergebnissen ableiten lassen.
Bei ADHS handelt es sich um ein komplexes, multifaktorielles Geschehen, bei dem sowohl genetische Ursachen als auch Umwelteinflüsse eine Rolle spielen. Unter den Umweltfaktoren sind neben exogenen Risikofaktoren und psychosozialen Einflussfaktoren die ernährungsbedingten Einflussfaktoren von Bedeutung, die wiederum Wechselwirkungen mit den anderen Faktoren bedingen.
Die medikamentöse Behandlung mit Stimulanzien hat sich in einer Langzeitstudie im Vergleich mit anderen Therapien als weniger erfolgreich erwiesen. Häufige Nebenwirkungen sind Appetitminderung, Gewichtsverluste und Wachstumsdefizite; diese können möglicherweise zu Nährstoffdefiziten führen. Andererseits ist die Prävalenz von Übergewicht und Adipositas unter von ADHS betroffenen erhöht, was auf eine allgemeine Reizüberflutung zurückgeführt wird. Ergebnisse von Langzeitstudien, die ADHS mit einer erhöhten Manganexposition über Säuglingsnahrung auf Sojaba-sis in Zusammenhang bringen, stehen derzeit noch aus.
Nährstoffe können Funktion und Leistung des Gehirns, und damit auch das Verhalten, spezifisch beeinflussen. So wird von den zwei Grundüberlegungen ausgegangen, dass bei ADHS entweder eine Nahrungsmittelunverträglichkeit oder ein Mangel an einem oder mehreren Nährstoffen vorliegt. Daraus ergeben sich zwei Grundprin-zipien einer entsprechenden Ernährungstherapie: die Elimination bestimmter Lebensmittel und Lebensmittelinhaltsstoffe oder eine Supplementierung von Nährstoffen.
Ein wichtiges Ziel für künftige Studien besteht darin, gezielt und individuell nutritive Risikofaktoren zu identifizieren und Effekte einer darauf aufbauenden gemischten Supplementierung von Nährstoffen zu messen. Auch die Differenzierung zwischen Subtypen der ADHS und nach Geschlecht, wie sie bereits in vielen Studien vorgenommen wurde, kann bedeutsam sein, um Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zu identifizieren.

The number of animals a farmer owns and the number of plots he/she cultivates are significant predictors of utilization of animal traction. Use of animal traction increases farm sizes of the farmers. The study further proved that draught animal power is profitable, but more profitable if farmers use it together with agricultural inputs (e.g. improved seeds and fertilizers). The book recommends governments and non-governmental organizations (e.g. world vision) to encourage farmers, especially those in semi arid areas, to adopt the technology since it is profitable. Limiting factors in the development of the technology are high initial investment costs, limited scientific research, education and training and lack of credit facilities.

The RS4 starches showed low swelling power (3g/g) after gelatinization in excess water. Reversibly swellable distarch phosphates with medium swelling power (4-12g/g) were also prepared by pre-swelling of starch in aqueous alkaline solution with salt, cross-linking, purifying and gelatinizing in hot water (95°C). After 6 cycles of swelling in hot water and oven drying, a medium swelling starch made from wheat lost negligible mass and maintained granule integrity. Hamsters fed 10% of low swelling RS4 wheat starch compared to same level of cellulose in their diet showed 1) lower feed consumption, 2) lower weight gain, 3) higher level of high-density cholesterol in the blood, 4) lower level of cholesterol in the liver, and 5) higher level of colonic short chain fatty acids, especially butyric acid.
